Over the past 29 years MRI has been responsible for the design and development of the Desert Eagle pistol. The design was refined and the actual pistols were manufactured by Israel Military Industries (IMI), subsequently shifted to Israeli Weapons Industries (IWI) until 1995, when MRI moved the manufacturing contract to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, MRI moved manufacturing back to IWI. Both Saco and IMI/IWI were strictly contractors: all of the intellectual property, including patents, copyrights and trademarks are the property of Magnum Research. Since 2009 the Desert Eagle Pistol has been produced in the USA at MRI's Pillager, MN facility. Besides offering the basic black finish 6” Desert Eagle Pistol MRI has developed a line-up of the Desert Eagle Pistols in a number of distinctive and appealing finishes including classic brushed chrome, Cerakote colors and patterns, “Tiger Stripe” pattern in a Gold titanium nitride coated finish or black, case colored pistols and more recently an all Stainless Steel Desert Eagle Pistol has been included as well as a 50 Ounce 5” barreled version called the L5.
The very first Desert Eagle chambered for the.50AE had the serial number 6349. Please note that in my 'teaser' a while back on this thread I was very careful not to claim that 6349 was a.50AE Desert Eagle manufactured by Magnum Research. Although it was, kinda. The first.50AE was a prototype, as you might well expect. Gil Horman During the last two years, Magnum Research, Inc. (MRI) launched three websites that allow customers to design and order customized configurations of the company’s Desert Eagle pistol, BFR Revolver and SwitchBolt rimfire rifle. List of Surviving B-17 Flying Fortresses in the U.S. Today, a number of B-17s are located in the United States. Development of the Desert Eagle was not yet complete, however, in 1985, the barrel was changed to incorporate polygonal rifling, to help enhance the pistol's accuracy.

Our Assessment: This gun goes by a few different names depending on who you are talking to and the importer. We have heard of these guns being called the “Baby Eagle” or the “Jericho 941”. This gun is simply marked “Desert Eagle Pistol” and that is what we are going to call it. The gun looks a lot like the CZ 75 with similar controls. The .40 S&W caliber is popular for international travel and carry because of the restriction on Military calibers. The .40 S&W does not qualify. The pistol looks great and has beautiful lines, given the name on the slide and frame there shouldn’t be any trouble with it either. Buy nice guns from reputable manufacturers and you can never go wrong.
